Life isn't always pretty

Life isn't always pretty. Rome is starting to learn that he can't always get away with everything. Unfortunately, he also learned that he doesn't like the word NO too much. He pouts, he pulls the corner of his mouth down, and then the tears start to come out. He doesn't make that kind of face too often, but when he does---I have to break out the camera. After all, it's fun to capture Rome's expression...even if it's not quite picture perfect.

Rome needs to learn that mommy has her limits:

- NO, you can't treat the bed like a personal trampoline and expect that mommy's going to catch you when you try to backflip off the mattress.

- NO, after your cookie falls on the ground, and you trample it with your dirty shoes, the three-second rule doesn't apply. (Or five-second rule, according to your daddy.)

- NO, you are not Michaelangelo and our walls aren't the ceilings of the Sistine Chapel.

- NO, you can't chuck your shoes at me as a way to get my attention while I'm driving.

- NO, Dora the Explorer on the television screen will not drink juice from your sippy cup.

- NO, we don't play hide n' seek in the dryer.

- NO, you can't shove all your toys inbetween, under, or behind the sofa. The same goes for the food you don't like.

- NO, you can't pull on our neighbor's dog's tail from between the fence, and expect her to fit through the chain link.

- NO, you can't shove other kids off the slide at the kiddie pool because you think they're taking too long to slide off.

- NO, you can't collect pebbles (or rocks) and shove them down your pants as a way to hide them from mommy.

I know, I know---I'm horrible for posting these "heartbreaking" (as my mom termed it) pictures of Rome, but I think they're kinda cute. J loves them since they capture Rome when he's acting a little bratty, and we want to remember all his not-so-pretty moments.

Oh, and these are definitely going up on our walls.

oh, poor baby.. you know it breaks my heart everytime i have to say NO to my daughter as well especially when she does not understand why we can't let her do the things she wants to do. like rome, she doesn't like to hear NO as well. she always wants our approval everytime. I agree with you that we need to set our limits. hahaha, that thing about letting Dora on tv sip on the cup is really funny.. kisses to rome!

Aww I love the first pic...... dont you hate being the bad guy..(LOL) i feel like my Baby will thin k his name is No at times...HUGS!!!

Meretrisha...LOL. Don't let your heart break. As mothers, we've got to be as tough as nails, and harden our hearts to the pouty-faced, puffy cheeked, and dewy-eyed looks. It's our child's underhanded way of winding us around their little fingers. **wink**

Natalee...you too? ;) If I'm not saying, "NO," then it's: PUT THAT BACK, DON'T DO THAT, I DON'T THINK SO, & GIVE IT TO ME. (Gosh, I could go on...)

Kids do things that we don't want but make us laugh. hehehe!I love the pouting pic!

OMG, those pictures are too cute. I loved reading your list. . .hmm, I think he and Logan would get along well, they have a lot in common :-)

he looks so cute even when he's sad and crying. :) he reminds me so much of my nephew Bren when he was still Rome's age. probably all kids go through that stage especially the part where they would like to shove things or food in between, under or behind the sofa. i remember my sister always had a problem looking for TV remote controls or finding some fruit loops between the cushions, haha! and yes they whine and cry when you tell them NO and i've been a witness to several situations like that with my nephew. :) i'll have my own experience to share when little Timmy comes out, hehe!

Thanks, Anney! My mom hates pictures like these, but I love 'em!

Andrea---LOL, I think boys and trouble go hand in hand. ;) Most of the time, anyway.

Jenn---speaking of fruit loops, I just picked up a whole bunch under the sofa cushions. Oh, and some goldfish crackers. Rome knows where to hide his snacks when I'm not looking. ;) Don't worry, you'll have plenty of snack-capades with your little one! ;)
