Nilaga for dinner

Food meme! I borrowed this meme off someone's blog in the internet, and since I don't have too much time to come up with long, drawn out blog posts, I'll just post a quickie.

What did you have for dinner last night?
Nilaga (Filipino stew), rice, and some patis (fish sauce).

Who cooked?
I did. I usually do, anyway. J's limited to grilling and cooking rice.

What's always in your refrigerator?
Cans of Sprite Zero, bottled water, orange juice, pink lemonade, milk, cheese, yogurt, and eggs.

What's always in your freezer?
Ice and popsicles.

What's always in your cupboards?
Too much stuff to name, but I always have a stock of Japanese ramen for a quick snack. Oh, and candy that I hide from J.

Fresh or frozen?
Fresh, of course! I picked up that habit of eating fresh foods from Germany, and I still stick to that here. It's another reason why I probably head to the grocery store a few times a week instead of doing my shopping in one shot.

Spicy or sweet?
I tend to favor spicy foods, but I'll indulge in some sweet ones every once in awhile.

Nastiest food you've ever eaten?

Years ago, I had escargot at a wedding, and I nearly puked. Won't ever, ever, ever touch that stuff again. Even if you paid me.

Best food you've ever eaten?
Too many to pull up, but anything my mother-in-law cooks is just to.die.for. My mom's vegetable lumpia is also scrumptious.

Your best dish?

Probably tuna and pickled plum onigiri. I haven't made it in ages though.

Dish you think that needs improving?
Plenty, but I could probably improve my meatloaf. Mine always comes out too dry. Bleh.

What's for dinner tonight?

I'm thinking stir fried beef n' brocolli and rice. Yum.

Oh nilaga! One of my comfort food. I remember when I was a kid, Sunday lunch is usually the highlight of the week. We'd either have nilaga or sinigang. And then for dessert, ice cream! That's usually the time when most of us are at home.

When I was in Australia, since I was the one going to the market and cooking, I'd buy lots of fresh ingredients and cook everything the entire day, then pop it in the freezer so i would just have to reheat. More time to explore the city that way ;)

i love nilaga too! do you still have anything left for me?

was your nilaga pork or beef? not too long ago, i tried making my first pork nilaga, it was good, i love nilaga but i haven't tried beef nilaga yet. yum yum!

In our ref there's always coke zero! I'm addicted but I'm trying to lessen drinking it. I also love spicy foods! I always have patis with crushed siling labuyo if the food isn't spicy.

Nina---COMFORT FOOD! I make nilaga when I want something soupy, but doesn't take too long to make. Sinigang comes in second, but I get too lazy to peel / cut the daikons. LOL.

Meretrisha---ah, we were pigs & ate it all. I'll save you some next time!

Jenn---I used beef shanks with the bone still in, but it depends on what's at the grocery store. I'll use pork or beef, but J prefers the beef version. ;)

Anney---Have you tried the Sprite Zero version? It probably tastes the closest to Sprite, which is why I keep drinking it. Before, I was a Sprite maniac (hence, the title of the blog), but I switched to the zero version when it came out. I haven't had too much of the coke version though.

I enjoyed reading this! I had actually never heard of escargot but I looked it up and it looks disgusting. . .I'll be sure to stay away from it if I'm ever around it!
